Recently, I attended a conference where we were shown a video of an interview with a person living. She spoke about what mealtime was like for her. She talked about how helpful it was to sit at an uncluttered table. She described the comfort she took in having a plain colored placement that held everything she might need during the meal. Her plate. Her cup. Her utensils. The salt and pepper shakers. She shared how difficult it was for her to eat in places with a lot of background noise, or with a person who tried to engage her in conversation. She needed every ounce of brain power to be focused on the task of eating her meal.
Over time I have learned a great deal about helping people with dementia be successful at mealtime. Like watching a Zinnia video about mealtime before sitting down to eat!
On Thursday, August 21 at 1:00 pm PT I will host a virtual Community Conversation to explore the topic of Eating and Dementia, followed by any questions you might have, whether or not they are related to eating.
Please share with anyone in your community who might benefit!

And while I am on the topic of eating, I also want to share about a wonderful program being brought to you by our good friends Carrie Aalberts (aka Dementia Darling) and Aaron Trestle of Trestle Hospitality. They are offering live sessions in a number of different cities, plus one live, virtual session (which I will be attending – there is always something to learn!!). Check it out, and share liberally.
