It was 2018 and I was trying to figure out why regular TV was so unsettling for my husband who was living with dementia. I came upon a paper titled, Television Viewing and People With Dementia Living in Long-Term Care: A Pilot Study. That paper shared about research done by Dr. Kate de Medeiros and her team. In long-term care settings they evaluated how people living with dementia responded to regular TV programs. The TV program that seemed most accessible was called Venice. It had no plot. No characters. It simply showcased lovely images set to music. That paper was the catalyst that started me wondering whether one could create an entire library of videos intentionally built to be digestible by, and engaging for people living with a changing brain.
In the Zinnia Travel channel there are nearly 40 videos to appeal to persons who might not be able to travel any longer, but who have loved exploring the world in the past. This summer, if you cannot take a vacation to Venice (or New York, or Paris, or Hawaii), enjoy instead connecting with someone you love while watching videos about your favorite places on ZinniaTV.
Subscriber Shout-out 📣 from June, a Family Caregiver
I love Zinnia and have recommended it to my brother who is on the board for an assisted living facility, will encourage the memory care facility where my husband resides to install it and to my care group that meets monthly. Wish I had known about Zinnia years ago. Thank you for making this available!
– Thanks June! We are happy to jump on a call with folks at the memory care community, or at the assisted living to help they understand why Zinnia is an excellent tool to support residents and staff.
