Zinnia TV launches a video streaming app for people with dementia
Celebrating November as the National Care Giver Month in the United States, Zinnia TV is releasing a new app that will allow people with dementia and their caregivers to watch videos from anywhere.
Previously only available in a web browser, people with dementia or facing cognitive changes, and their caregivers, can now watch Zinnia TV with a new app available on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV as well as Android, Fire TV and Roku devices.
Allyson Schrier, CEO and co-founder of Zinnia TV said: "Regular TV can be distressing for people who are no longer able to process rapidly moving images and audio, tell fact from fiction, or follow a plot. We're so excited to make it easier for people with dementia and their caregivers to watch Zinnia TV which features videos adapted to their needs—on almost any screen available."
The Zinnia TV research-driven videos are crafted by dementia experts, artists and care professionals. They're uplifting, slow-paced and plot-free—perfect for those preferring a gentler viewing experience.
Passive viewing can soothe distress and promote self-care but our videos can also be used to help anticipate events of the day. For example by watching the "Let's eat lunch" video while lunch is being prepared by a caregiver viewers can help anticipate the next action of the day and transition to it more smoothly.
Through active viewing with an empathetic caregiver and commenting on the content of videos, viewers can reestablish a sense of self and feel more connected to the people around them.
